Simon is a Research Associate at the Transport Systems and Logistics Laboratory in the Centre for Transport studies.
He obtained a PhD from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. His thesis investigated traffic control for connected and autonomous vehicles. This included both intersection scheduling and trajectory guidance algorithms, leading to reductions in delays, fuel usage and emissions.
Previously, Simon obtained dual bachelor degrees in information technology and mathematics, and had nine years experience as a software engineer for SAP Research and IBM.
His current research involves modelling and simulating mixed-autonomous traffic flow and assuring the safe operation of autonomous vehicles in a range of scenarios.
